Christophe Cordier Terroir de Lamartine Macon, Burgundy 2023
Christophe Cordier’s estate comprises 30-odd hectares over a number of Village appellations in the Mâconnais region, including Mâcon-Fuissé Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint Veran.
He produces balanced wines by harvesting fresh ripe grapes that concentrate naturally due to their low yields, and in a distinctive house style that is always concentrated, rich and full. Domaine Henri Gouges, Côtes de Nuits Villages, Burgundy, France, 2022
Henri Gouges began shaping the future of his domaine shortly after World War I, when he inherited 9ha of prime vineyards in Nuits-St-Georges. Between 1920 and 1934, he expanded his holdings significantly. Today, the estate spans 14.5ha, including seven exceptionally well positioned Premier Cru sites. A pioneer in estate bottling, Henri Gouges was among the first in Burgundy – alongside notable names like Marquis d’Angerville – to begin bottling and marketing his wines directly in 1933. He was also deeply committed to low yields and strict vineyard management – principles that remain central to the domaine’s philosophy under the stewardship of his descendants. Now run by the third and fourth generations – Pierre and Christian Gouges, Pierre’s son Gregory, and most recently Antoine, who leads the winemaking – the domaine continues to uphold its tradition of producing structured, terroir-driven Nuits-St- Georges. In 1977, the family introduced rye grass cover crops between the vines – an innovation that has proved highly beneficial for soil health and biodiversity in the vineyards.
The nose offers impressive volume and intensity, bursting with vibrant red fruit aromas framed by a subtle chalky minerality and a gentle touch of oak. On the palate, it is generous and supple, delivering a juicy core of spicy red berries layered with creamy notes of blue and black fruits. The texture is smooth and polished, with well-integrated oak adding depth and nuance. This wine strikes a fine balance between freshness and richness, making it both immediately appealing and worthy of further cellaring.

Christophe Cordier Saint Veran, Burgundy 2023
Christophe Cordier’s estate comprises 30-odd hectares over a number of Village appellations in the Mâconnais region, including Mâcon-Fuissé Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint Veran.
Refreshing, complex flavours with notes of citrus, pear, and white flowers. The wine exhibits a balance between fruitiness and acidity, with a subtly creamy texture. The use of oak in the winemaking process contributes to a buttery finish and hints of nuttiness, which is what I fell in love with when tasting this wine.

Domaine Chanzy Les Cailloux Rully Blanc
This is a Chardonnay that started out as a very light golden colour flecked with green highlights with aromas of lemon, honey, peach and peach which change as the wine ages to produce aromas of honey, dried fruits and quince. It is nicely aged now and has developed secondary flavours, more intensity and a honeyed, richer mouthfeel. It is unquestionably great for the pricepoint and worth having a few bottles to hand this Christmas.

Domaine Darviot-Perrin, Chassagne Montrachet Blanc, La Bergerie, Burgundy, France, 2022
The single "La Bergerie" vineyard where this wine originates from is situated just 250 meters south of the prestigious Montrachet Grand Cru, in the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet. The vines, averaging over 100 years in age, are planted on clay-limestone soils with a predominance of clay. This unique terroir imparts depth and complexity to the wine, reflecting the exceptional quality of the vineyard.

Jean Baptiste Jessiaume Saint Aubin Blanc, Cotes de Beaune, Burgundy, 2022
A real and utterly rare treat. With a deep connection to the land and a commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, Jean Baptiste is dedicated to creating wines that not only reflect the unique terroir of the region but also express the rich history and traditions of Burgundy.
This is bright and elegant, and for a Saint-Aubin, this opens with aromas of green apple, lemon peel, and white flowers, underscored by hints of chalk and almond skin. The palate is taut and focused, offering zesty citrus, fine mineral texture, and a clean, lifted finish.

Domaine Bachey Legros, Maranges Blanc, Burgundy 2022
The success of this Domaine stems from its incredible stock of old vines, producing small yields that offer perfect grape ripeness and concentration while being deeply anchored in their rootstocks.
The resulting wines offer power and elegance in equal measure and come from a legacy of generational winemaking that dates from the 19th century. I have a mere 18 bottles of this wine but the producer wowed with their Chassagne Montrachet too, all 24 bottles of which are sadly gone now.
Bottles from €95.00
Chanzy Puligny Montrachet Les Reuchaux
Puligny-Montrachet shares with Chassagne Montrachet the most perfect expression of Chardonnay. Only a few meters from the Grands Crus, the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée was established in 1937. It offers a white wine with a strong personality and a high reputation. Concentrated strength and a great heritage have made Puligny-Montrachet. With complete balance and great aromatic complexity combined with refined style, this works with delicate but also rich dishes.
