Our Rainy Day Comfort Wines 🍷

Jan 25, 2026

Rainy day wines are their own thing. They’re not about making a statement or opening something special for the sake of it. They’re about leaning into the slower pace, staying in, cooking something comforting and opening a bottle that feels familiar, reassuring and easy to enjoy.

For us, rainy day comfort wines are all about balance. Nothing too sharp, nothing too heavy. Just well-made bottles that suit a quiet afternoon, an unhurried dinner or an early evening on the sofa while the rain taps against the window. These are wines you can trust to work, whatever ends up on the plate.

Malbec is a perfect example. Wines like Amalaya Malbec remain one of our most consistent favourites, and it’s easy to see why. Soft, ripe and full of dark fruit with a gentle hint of chocolate, it’s the kind of red that feels immediately warming. Ideal for comfort food, simple dishes or even just a glass on its own, it never asks too much of you.

Rioja also comes into its own on days like these. A wine such as Bodegas Navajas Tinto is a favourite for good reason. While its big sister, Bodegas Navajas Crianza, is one of our all-time bestsellers, there’s something especially appealing about the brightness and simplicity of the Tinto. Ripe red berries and a touch of spice on the nose make it perfect for slower meals and long conversations. It has enough structure to sit happily with food, but stays gentle and approachable throughout the afternoon.

On the white side, comfort is just as important. Soalheiro Alvarinho continues to be one of our most trusted whites, especially for those who want freshness without sharpness. Bright citrus, subtle texture and a clean finish make it incredibly versatile, whether you’re cooking, grazing or simply enjoying a glass while the weather does its thing outside.

Another favourite is Kapuka Sauvignon Blanc, a wine many of our customers return to time and again. Dry and satisfying, but still full of the lively acidity New Zealand does so well, it’s a great option when you want something refreshing with a bit of presence, without anything feeling heavy.

What all of these wines have in common is trust. They’re bottles people reorder because they know exactly what they’re getting. And that’s really what a rainy day wine should be. Something you open with confidence, pour generously, and enjoy without overthinking.
