We're 25 Years Old!

Founded in 1999 by two wine lovers, it was the first wine website in Ireland. Much has changed since, but what hasn’t is a passion for bringing brilliant wines, gifts, hampers and spirits directly to you.

Anne Mullin & Gerry Fitzsimons studied wine together in the early 90’s and their first venture was to set up ‘Premier Cru Wine Club’ in North County Dublin. In 1999 they went on to turn their passion into a business and WineOnline.ie was born. They have always had an unwavering commitment to quality and value and this has passed into the next generation who have taken hold of the reigns. Anne’s son Will came onboard in 2012 and together with his wife Elaine, they oversee the day to day operations of the company. Since 2020 the team has grown to ten people, each of them dedicated to delivering a great product, with brilliant customer service time and time again for our customers. We are still a family owned and operated business that is proudly Irish and supportive of Irish jobs.

At the core of what we do is our winery partners. We import wines from 40 wineries around Europe. These wineries are carefully chosen by our team and we look for partners who hold dear the same values that we do. They are organic practicing, family owned in most cases and are firmly dedicated to quality and sustainability in everything they do. The same goes for the distilleries we work with. We look for the same values and are proud to support Irish companies wherever we can.

Our customers are mostly wine and spirit lovers, people and companies sending gifts, a small amount of hand selected restaurants & social clubs and you. We would love you to join us!

Growing up, we had weekly wine club nights at our house. There was a mystery surrounding the bottles, covered in brown bags. I would listen in as everyone around the table would guess the wine. In my twenties, I explored vineyards across Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. These experiences solidified my dream of joining our family business. In 2012, that dream became a reality. As a small, family-owned business, we rely on the support of our community and team. I'm proud of the people behind WineOnline.ie and the fantastic relationships we've built with our customers and suppliers. When I'm not searching for the next great wine or producer, you'll find me with my family or enjoying a run with friends. And there's nothing quite like a glass of Bordeaux. It's the gold standard.

I spent over 10 years in the not-for-profit sector with Ireland’s leading children’s charity, Barnardos. In 2018 I made the switch and joined WineOnline.ie as Head of Operations. Will and I are married since 2010 and have two children, Sally and Ed. Since starting in the family business, we have a greater work life balance and less time is spent commuting. I keep everyone on the team on the straight and narrow and I'm big on the overall strategic vision for the business - I love a good planning meeting! When I'm not working you’ll most likely find me by the coast enjoying a sea swim - hail, rain or shine. When the time comes, a glass of (ice cold) Chardonnay with a little oak is my favourite, and I always go back, again and again to Iona, from Elgin in South Africa which is my perfect wine!

I began my wine journey in 1989 at Café Clara, moving to Locks in Portobello in 1992. Since then, I’ve achieved a diploma in wine and have always worked in the wine trade. Passion for wine comes naturally in this industry, and I truly love my job and the people in it. Outside of work, I enjoy running and playing music (though not at the same time!). I regularly judge at the Noffla Irish Wine Awards each October. Family remains my priority - they are my rock. If I had to drink only white Burgundy forever, I wouldn’t complain, and Chateau Musar holds a special place in my heart. As a Wine Advisor, I’m available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and always happy to assist with wine queries.

I’ve always worked in family businesses and believe it's easier to make a bigger impact in a smaller company. As the gatekeeper of finance here, I manage the purse strings. I joined the team in March 2022, but it already feels like I’ve been here for years! In my spare time (what spare time?!), I love baking novelty cakes for family and friends and raising my kids to be the best they can be. Camping is another favorite activity, and you’ll often find me with a good glass of Montepulciano on a campsite every summer weekend. I also coach my daughter’s GAA team, and with my love of reading novels, it’s no wonder there’s little time for other hobbies!

I began my journey with WineOnline.ie in June 2020, right after my 'post-uni world travels' were cut short due to a global pandemic. With my degree in Marketing and Technology, my role grew over the course of the year from order management to social media marketing. In mid 2021, as the world opened up once again, my wanderlust returned and I left Ireland to live in Spain. Remote working had become the norm and the team at WineOnline.ie took me on to manage their social media freelance from Valencia. In 2021 I completed further education in Website Design and as of March 2024 I manage all WineOnline.ie marketing and website growth. Outside of looking after my wonderful clients, I enjoy travelling the world with my partner. I may be biased, but any Spanish red is a winner for me!

When you place an order with WineOnline.ie, it likely passes through my hands, as I oversee every order leaving the building. After working in the on-trade, I became a whiskey ambassador at Dublin Airport and later led the retail team at the Jameson Distillery for four years. I enjoy staying updated on Irish Whiskey's latest developments and products. After 4 years working in the Warehouse, I now work in the customer satisfaction team. Outside of work, I love spending time with my two dogs and family. Charity work is important to me, and I try to help whenever I can - small acts make a big difference. I don't drink much anymore, but if I do, Yellow Spot from Middleton is a favourite.

I spent over 15 years in finance and insurance before making a career switch to something I truly love, and I’ve never looked back. I joined the team here in September 2020. Married to Lisa with two small children, life stays busy. When I’m not in the warehouse or working on photography for the website, I’m either with my family or exploring the latest rum releases. While I’ve always been passionate about music, I’ve recently discovered a deep love for rum and have already convinced the team that rum is just as great as whiskey. Now, I’m on a mission to convince you too! You can follow my rum adventures on Instagram @dukes_rum_place.
Gerry & Anne
Our Founders

Gerry & Anne

Gerry and Anne founded WineOnline.ie in 1999. They were among the first in Ireland to sell wine online, launching the business before even major companies like Ryanair had websites! Both completed their wine diplomas in 1991, sharing a deep passion for wine. Gerry’s experience and travels to wine shows allowed them to import wines directly, cutting costs and passing value to the consumer - a business model still in place today. Anne, a founding member of the Dublin Wine Club Premier Cru (which is still running after 20 years!), is now part of the Irish Guild of Sommeliers and one of 500 international judges at the International Taste Awards. Although both retired, with their experience and impeccable palates they remain on the tasting panel, assessing every product that makes it onto our site.
