Description:

A deeply personal project from Elena Pacheco and Isio Ramos, Bruma is an exciting interpretation of Jumilla and brings lightness, complexity and elegance to this hot, arid, and often monolithic region.

Viña Elena is in Estrecho de Marín, a valley surrounded by low-lying mountains in the southern end of Jumilla, where the elevation is around 400 metres, the lowest in the DO. The family grows around 100 hectares of vines out of which 47 are rented; the rest are their own.

In 2014, Elena partnered with consultant and wine distributor Isio Ramos to launch Bruma del Estrecho de Marín. The idea behind this interesting terroir-driven project is to showcase sites and vineyards with varying soils, elevation and vine age. Around 55.000 bottles are produced altogether.

The Bruma del Estrecho range starts with Paraje Marín, a blend of different Monastrell vineyards surrounding the winery. They try to find a balance between sun-drenched plots facing west and those in the opposite, fresher slope that benefit from some shading. The style is ripe but concrete helps to smooth the tannins making the wine approachable and easy to drink.

Tasting Note:

Medium intensity, ruby colour. The nose is a synonym of Monastrell. Super red-fruit nose! On the palate, the weight, the silkiness and the flavours make the wine superior in its range. Paraje Marín is a terroir-driven Monastrell with a great character and reflects it's origin really well, the Marín Valley, southern part of the appellation.

Food Matches: Great wine for tapas, sushi, grilled salmon, baked cod with tomato sauce, risotto and white meats. Also, excellent wine to pair with Thai, Cantonese and Italian cuisine.
