Description:

Wildeberg (‘wild mountain’) is literally a place ‘on the edge’, of Franschhoek and the mountains themselves. Formally an equestrian farm, the land has never before been planted under vine but this wild and magical mountain has an undefinable energy .

The fact that only 10% of the property itself can be planted underlines the wild character of this place.

Wildeberg is our small farm in Franschhoek. Wildeberg Terroirs is an expression of the most exciting vineyard blocks we work with in the wider Coastal Region.  The fruit is hand-picked, crushed then fermented at Wildeberg. Location, location, location. That is the magic. Difficult soils, difficult site, interesting story.

Wildeberg’s rationale is to source the finest vineyards available to us across Franschhoek and the Coastal Region, from which cuvées the eyes are plucked to make Wildeberg and the Terroir Series releases. In doing so there remains a small yet definitive expression of all the vineyards we worked with, and its these cuvees that are again selected to go into Coterie by Wildeberg. Semillon barrel fermented in 600 litre French and Austrian oak for 10 months. Sauvignon blanc fermented in stainless steel and kept on the gross lees for 10 months. Hand-harvested and naturally-fermented.

Tasting Note:
The nose has gentle, complex aromas of lemongrass and grapefruit with notes of hay and fennel. The palate has a concentrated, textural mouthfeel with lanolin and preserved lemons. Pithy, affirmatively tart with bright acidity on the refreshingly taut, appetising finish.

Food Matches: Great with white fish, roast chicken dishes, or tiger prawns with chili.
