Description:

Valenciso Blanco is a white wine from the D.O. La Rioja, produced by the Valenciso winery. This wine is a blend of two different grape varieties: Viura (70%) and Garnacha Blanca (30%).

The grapes used to produce this wine,, come from vineyards situated in the towns of Villalba, Haro and Ollauri. The vineyards are cultivated using sustainable techniques and home to old vines and clay and calcareous soils. The Region, La Rioja Alta, is home to an Atlantic Climate dominated by warm temperatures.

The harvest is carried out manually, ensuring that the grapes are not broken and that they remain in the best condition possible as to not lose their character. After being transported to the winery, the grapes ferment in oak barrels from the Caucasus. The wine then ages in the same oak barrels for 9 months, before being bottled and placed onto the market. Valenciso Blanco is produced in limited quantities, with only 9,000 bottles produced per vintage.

The Valenciso winery was founded back in 1998, with its name coming about as a blend of the the founders surnames, Luís Valentín and Carmen Enciso. Aided by the agronomist Julián Palacios, the team at the winery, now composed of six people, produces elegant and fine wines, which emphasise the presence of the fruit over the wood.

Tasting Note : Made from very old Viura and Garnacha Blanca vines fermented and aged in oak barrels from the Caucasus which lend a very subtle oakiness to the wine. It shows lots of stone fruit with layers of spice and nuts, minerality and a beautiful rich mouth feel.
