Tenuta delle Terre Nere is a benchmark Etna estate owned by the experienced wine aficionado Marco de Grazia. Its first commercial vintage was 2002, making it one of the region’s foremost pioneers. Starting off with one parcel of old goblet vines in the Vigneto Guardiola, Marco has now increased his holdings to numerous parcels including the Santo Spirito, Guardiola, San Lorenzo and Calderara vineyards. The principle variety grown on the estate is Nerello Mascalese, which is indigenous to the Etna.

Marco made this wine first in 2005. They wanted to remove that more or less 5% of white grapes that the local wineries used to mingle with their red ones, in order to make Etna Rosso from red grapes alone. The white grapes were a mixture of local varieties: Carricante, Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia and Minnella. So that’s what Etna Bianco was: a field blend of all the above, with Carricante dominating the blend with roughly 65% and still is. All from old vines. An  amazing island white wine, stylish, confident, elegant just like a ballet dancer. Deviously drinkable, complex with all sorts of unique aromas of wet stone floral notes. Salty, rich minerals combined with brilliant freshness.

Food Match: Fish, meat or fowl, are all fine, if very gently cooked. It loves seafood, particularly over pasta: after all, it is Sicilian.

Closure: Natural Cork  ABV: 12.5%   Acidity [g/l]: 5
