Marking two centuries of mastery at Midleton Distillery, the Midleton Very Rare 2026 release stands as a true milestone in Irish whiskey-making. This vintage captures perfect balance and layered complexity through the careful blending of six distinct distillate styles, each reflecting generations of innovation, tradition, and dedication that define the Midleton legacy. Since 1984, every Master Distiller has crafted their own unique vintage in the Midleton Very Rare series, cementing its reputation as the pinnacle of Irish whiskey.
The 2026 edition, signed by Master Distiller Kevin O’Gorman, draws on more than forty years of aged single pot still and single grain whiskeys. O’Gorman and his team spent months refining the blend, selecting rare casks from Midleton’s famous A2 Warehouse. A historic stone building dating back to the 1860s, where some of the distillery’s finest whiskeys quietly mature.
For the first time in the collection’s history, six individual distillate styles were used, each blended with precision to achieve exceptional depth and character. This vintage also places a stronger emphasis on pot still whiskey, bringing layers of spice and stone fruit to complement the sweeter tones of grain whiskey, including toffee, butterscotch, and delicate floral notes.
Unique to the 2026 release is the inclusion of three grain whiskey styles, among them a 22-year-old small-batch special grain whiskey and a 21-year-old grain whiskey, both matured in refill ex-American oak barrels. Their elegant sweetness and butterscotch richness add further dimension to the final blend.
After numerous prototypes and refinements, O’Gorman and his team arrived at a whiskey of harmony and depth - true to the Midleton Very Rare character, but with a fresh, defining twist for its 200th anniversary year. The Midleton Very Rare 2026 is not only a tribute to two centuries of excellence, but also a promise of the distillery’s continued innovation for generations to come.
