Meerestein Shiraz Mourvedre
Country: South Africa Region: Western Cape
Varietal: Shiraz Mourvedre Vintage: 2022
Colour: Red Style: Dry
Producer: Meerestein - Marinda Kruger van Eck
Description:
One could argue that this wine oozes Rhone style quality, but I dare say the French may disagree. This wine has a delicious bright raspberry and crushed blackcurrant character with a rich almost almond like finish.
Tasting Note:
This is an interesting blend of old bush vine Shiraz (around 70%) with the balance being made up with Mourvedre. Sourced from excellent parcels of fruit with long established growers with relationships spanning over some 30 years, wine maker Marinda Kruger Van Eck has encompassed some the character of the region.
Interestingly in this wine Marinda has used traditional techniques used in the Rhone for years. This is where Viognier is fermented with the Shiraz before it is blended with the very slow growing Mourvedre grape.
