Description:
Heidi Schröck is a pioneer in the Austrian wine scene. Voted ‘Vintner of the Year’ by food and wine magazine Falstaff, Heidi leads an organisation dedicated to promoting female winemakers. As a result of her work, the number of women working in the Austrian wine industry has increased considerably in recent years.
The Zweigelt Rusterberg comes from two small vineyard plots on the Ruster Berg, the hills surrounding the famous village of Rust. The vineyards ‘Kraxner’ and ‘Ruster’ are east facing, with a gentle slope towards the Lake Neusiedel. The soil is sandy loam with mica schist and gneiss. The site is managed sustainably, without the use of herbicides or insecticides and the growth of local plants as cover crop is encouraged.
Tasting Note:
The wine is dark ruby red in colour, with aromas of red berries and hints of liquorice. The palate has a juicy core of strawberry and blackberry with ripe, velvety tannins
Food Matches:
If you don’t have it with a pork dish, make like the Austrians and enjoy it with sausages or schnitzel.
