Country: Australia Region: Heathcote, Victoria

Varietal: Sangiovese

Vintage:2010 Colour:Red Style:Dry

Producer: Alberto Antonini

Description: The name ‘Greenstone’ comes from the rocks coloured green by the oxidised iron in the soils. It was purchased by winemaker Alberto Antonini, viticulturalist Mark Walpole and David Gleave of Liberty Wines in 2002.
2005 was the first vintage from the Greenstone Vineyard, and was met with great critical acclaim. James Halliday, Australia's Robert Parker, gave the winery a Five Star rating in the 2008 Guide. Though Heathcote is known for its distinctive Shiraz, Tuscan wine-maker Alberto Antonini felt the Italian Sangiovese would work, due to the natural terroir and the average temperature during the growing season, which is identical to that in the heart of Chianti. His innovation and confidence are reflected and rewarded in this extremely elegant wine.

Tasting Note:  Vibrant mid plum in colour, the nose opens to reveal dried herbs, cinnamon, clove and savoury cherry and red fruits; overlying fragrant spice from fine grained French oak. The palate is seamless, with beautifully integrated fine grained tannins and equally fine acidity – the hallmark of great Sangiovese. Handsome and statuesque. Suggestions of dried flowers and maybe a hint of aniseed. The finish is all dried Italian herbs. One of the best Australian Sangiovese we've tasted! Sure to age gracefully for at least ten years.

Ageing Potential:  10+ years             ABV: 13.7%
