The Cava +&+ Brut Selección won the award for the 'Best Cava in Spain' at the Wines of Spain Award which consists of a jury of producers, journalists, sommeliers and WSET and is led by Tim Atkin who is also a Master of Wine. He's a renowned wine expert and if it's good enough for Tim, it is certainly good enough for us. The Pinord +&+ Selection Brut Cava NV is a rich, yet floral 'traditional method' sparkling wine, made from the traditional Catalan grapes of Parellada, Xarel-Lo and Macabeo. It undergoes a prolonged aging of the lees to increase the intensity of the flavour. This is made in the same way as champagne. The flavours are complex and perfect for Christmas Day aperitifs!

The Starter White
Javier del Blanco, Francisco Santiso and Jorge Navascues are all wonderful winemakers in their own right, Jorge being the most well known as head winemaker at Rioja Contino, but together, like a fine blend, their whole becomes greater than their parts. The project was born in 2017 with the desire to bottle small parcels of old vine Bobal from Javier’s home region of Valencia. The original vineyard is in the tiny village of La Portera which gives its name to the wine.
This white is expressive and textured with saline acidity, soft tropical fruit notes, citrus and fleshy apple. There is a depth of flavour and complexity to the wine which is thrilling and ever so enjoyable. This ripe yet crunchy fruit gives this wine its freshness, vigour and spine and at the same time its luscious texture which is further complemented and enriched from one third vinified and matured for nine months in seasoned French oak. A delicious wine, crisp and dry with refreshing acidity and a hint of creaminess, with mouth filling ripe fruit and a long lingering finish. The Starter Red
This new vintage has only just released. This wine has just picked up a gold medal at the Brussels Wine Show. The first thing you notice about this wine is the lovely berry and spice aromas. Following this is the wonderful flavours of spicy plum, cherry and blackberry that flow through the mouth, resulting in an approachable fruit driven wine with a smooth and mouth filling finish. It is nicely balanced with great fruit characters and persistent flavours. You will instantly taste how well made it is. It is made by one of the tiniest producers in Rioja who focus all of their energies on quality rather than quantity and my how they have succeeded with this stunning Rioja. As a country, Ireland loves Reserva Rioja, and this is one of the very finest Reservas we have tasted. We bet you'll agree too!

At once fresh and mellow, the palate is reinforced, but not excessively, by delicate and savoury tannins. Easy to drink, balanced and aromatic, this Château Argadens punches way above its pricepoint. Taylors Fine Tawny Port is incredibly versatile. It can be chilled to bring freshness. This makes it perfect as an aperitif. However, it is most widely known for its smooth and mellow character derived from the hand selected wines that are chosen for this blend. It is a pale brick colour with aromas of butterscotch, figs and prunes, interwoven with attractive nutty and spicy aromas. Smooth and round on the palate, full of rich strawberry jam flavours. Enjoy this with the Cheeseboard on Christmas Day. It will keep for well over four weeks once opened, so can be enjoyed throughout the whole festive season.
