Description:
Château Potensac has been in the same family for several centuries and is still passed down by women (Jean-Hubert Delon inherited the estate from his grandmother). It is situated on a high point in the northern Médoc, with deep gravel banks resting on a subsoil of clay and limestone. Pure and powerful, with dense, spicy tannins, the wines are renowned for their ageing potential.

"Concentrated and intense, fragrant spicy notes of green peppercorn, liqourice root, smoked earth, freshly cut herbs and black tea. Plenty of lift, a little serious and austere, but this is a well balanced and enjoyable wine. Harvest Setepbmer 18 to 29, 20% new oak for ageing. No 2nd wine of Potensac since 2021, since they pulled out more than 20ha of vines to retain only the most high quality parts of the vineyard."

"A bright ruby colour with peppery red fruit and rosemary stalks on the nose. The palate shows bright cherry fruit, camphor oil and fennel seed. This is a chalky, chewy and sinewy wine with savoury tones that linger in tandem with the fruit to a long finish. Classical."

"Seriously deep colour, and plenty of perfume, heather, blackberry and crushed roses, this is really an impressive Mauvesin. This is one that I think will surprise many people. More accessible than many because it keep freshness and juice running through it, but has the depth and concentration of the vintage. One to look out for."
Tasting Notes:
Here the Cabernet Sauvignon seems to take over the role of the Merlot and brings more intensity and freshness to the wine while the Merlot gives the wine appetising flavours of bitter orange and mango. The tannins are athletic and quite powerful and the aging in 40% new oak adds a sweet and creamy character to the wine. Towards the end of the palate this wine tastes more serious but the cassis freshness is very attractive.
