Description:
Owned by the Vauthier family of Château Ausone fame, Château Moulin Saint-Georges is a hidden gem from Saint-Émilion, delivering elegance, depth, and balance in every sip. This 7 hectare vineyard on the limestone hillside of Saint Emilion adjoins Ausone and has the same winemaker. The Vauthier family have owned it since 1921. Around 2,500 cases are produced annually from vines that average around 35 years old.

Its eponymous wine, Château Moulin Saint-Georges, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, comes from vines over 30 years old planted on clay-limestone soils. Vineyard practices are traditional and the grapes are harvested by hand. In the winery, only the finest grapes are selected and fermented with indigenous yeasts in thermoregulated stainless steel vats for a total of 4 to 5 weeks. The wine is then aged in new French oak barrels for 18 months.

With a limited production of about 25 barrels per year, Château Moulin Saint-Georges is a magnificent red wine that exemplifies the full potential borne of the exceptional terroirs of Saint-Émilion. Another marvel from the exclusive and exceptional Vauthier family.

"This has the joy of 2022 with the depth of Moulin St Georges, salty, saline, oyster shell, juicy, crushed rocks, coffee, cocoa bean, liquorice, espresso, saffron and sage. 100% new oak. Harvest September 19 to 26. A buy, wonderful stuff from the team at Ausone."

"Fresh and framed with a juiciness but also a coolness and brightness. Medium to full body. Very balanced. Well done."

"The 2022 Moulin Saint-Georges has really opened up on the nose since tasting from barrel. It's plusher and opulent than it showed then, with layers of black cherry, cassis fruit, orange pith and glycerine. The palate is medium-bodied and velvety smooth, with lush tannins and a dash of cracked black pepper on the finish. There is structure and sapidity here. This is a stylish Moulin Saint-Georges that should age well. "

Tasting Notes:
On the nose, it displays a seductive bouquet of ripe red fruits such as cherries and raspberries, complemented by notes of dark berries, violets, and delicate spices. On the palate, it reveals a silky texture and a balanced structure, supported by fine tannins and vibrant acidity. This freshness lends the wine an excellent harmony, blending fruit, minerality, and spice. The finish is long and elegant, with hints of chocolate and graphite, highlighting its complexity and potential for further aging.
