Craggy Range Te Muna Sauvignon Blanc 2025 (Martinborough, Wairarapa, New Zealand) was awarded a Platinum Medal (97 points) at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards. It was one of only 196 Platinum wines from almost 17,000 entries worldwide, placing it in approximately the top 1.18% of all wines judged.

For Craggy Range, this is a major achievement because Platinum is not awarded from a single tasting. Gold-winning wines are re-tasted and debated by senior Decanter judges, including Masters of Wine and regional experts, before receiving Platinum status.

The award is particularly meaningful for the Te Muna Vineyard, as it highlights Martinborough’s ability to produce world-class Sauvignon Blanc alongside its better-known Pinot Noir. The wine was recognised for its purity, texture, aromatic intensity, fine acidity and mineral character, reflecting the cool climate and gravelly soils of the Te Muna site.

For the producer, a Decanter Platinum medal provides powerful international validation: it confirms that the wine can compete at the highest global level in a blind tasting against thousands of wines from established regions and famous estates.

Terry Peabody, his family and Steve Smith MW, set out to create new benchmarks with wines now globally recognised as New World classics. Wines that would be listed in the world’s finest restaurants and fine wine merchants. From the outset, Terry and Steve followed the single vineyard philosphy: to select and source the best land and vineyards inthe region and plant vines most suited ot that terroir. Rich red varieties in the warmer Gimblett Gravels and Pino Noir and Sauvignon Blanc in the the cooler Martinborough area. Craggy Range were the first in the Southern Hemisphere to adopt this practice.

Tasting Note:
Pale straw colour with green hues. Fresh aromatics of white flowers, jasmine, nectarine and lime. Rich, wonderfully complex palate with an array of tropical fruits, refreshing acidity and a long chalky finish.
