Description:
Originally from Melbourne, Jane Eyre “fell in love” with Burgundy while doing work experience at Domaine Chevrot in 1998. Since 2011, she has developed her own négociant business and makes a range of perfumed and expressive wines from celebrated vineyards across Burgundy and Beaujolais.

In a short space of time, Jane has established herself as one of Burgundy’s most revered winemakers. A feat proven by her recent appointment as head winemaker at Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard, one of the most historic domaines of the Côte de Beaune. Jane will continue to produce her own wines, while taking on this prestigious role. Further testament to Jane’s winemaking prowess is the ‘Négociant of the Year’ award given to her in 2021 by the Revue des Vins de France. Jane is the first woman and the first person from outside of France to be awarded this. Both accolades are a phenomenal achievement for a relative newcomer to Burgundy.

The Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru ‘Aux Vergelesses’ is a sentimental wine for Jane, as it is the first parcel she ever purchased fruit from. It is beautifully perfumed, with a bouquet of red cherries, violets, and raspberries, complemented by superb structure, which offers excellent ageing potential.

Product Features: Sustainable, Vegan, Vegetarian

Vineyards:
The Savigny les Beaune 1er cru Aux Vergelesses ( commonly called Savigny Vergelesses ) is one of the best 1er crus from Savigny les Beaune. Facing the Mont Blanc in the east it is above the Ile de Vergelesses, a 1er cru vineyard of Pernand Vergelesses. The vineyard is on a fairly steep slope, well-drained and the soil is argilo calcareous marl. Vines for the 'Savigny Vergelesses' are between 25 and 50 years old.

Vinification:
Small parcels of low-yielding fruit were picked by hand and de-stemmed. Indigenous yeast fermentation took place in stainless-steel tanks where a combination of gentle pump overs and punch downs were employed as needed. The wine was matured in 100% French oak barriques, around 20% of which were new, and then racked once to tank before bottling, without undergoing fining or filtration.

Tasting Notes:
This is a highly-perfumed wine that offers a mix of delicate red berries aromas and spicy undertones, with a brambly edge. On the palate, a backbone of refreshing acidity and fine but firm tannins provide balance and structure.
