The Aperitif
Start the day with a spectacular sparkling wine from the central belt of Italy. This is made in the Champagne method, aged on it’s lees and stored in bottle before release for at least 18 months. All of this adds complexity and flavour. The Di Camillo family is famous for their approachable and fresh style and they deliver a delicious sparkling wine here. – There are no requirements for ageing here, but this wine ages for more than 18 months. The winemaker is focused on quality production and it will be a great way to begin the celebrations this Christmas Day. The Starter White
A gold medal winner at The International Wine Challenge this has it all – a nose of fresh ginger, cardamom and Jasmine – From 30 year old vines, it is full of minerality, freshness, salinity and clean fruit. It is lip-smackingly mouth-filling. Lemons, Citrus fruits and wet stone coat the mouth, with a huge acidity that will cut creamy sauces or oily fish. We are of course thinking of smoked salmon with this wine and we promise instant gratification as the citrus hit cuts the oily salmon and they create huge flavours.
This is the only New Zealand Riesling to win a Gold Medal at the International Wine Challenge Awards. A wine that is so fresh and crisp, will be right at home with Christmas day starters and aperitifs. It is lively and fresh, elegant and smooth and it will work incredibly well with smoked salmon, paté’s, salads, shellfish and seafood! Yum.

The Main Course White
This wine is made by one of the most famous families in Bordeaux, The Sichel Family. They are custodians of properties like Chateau Palmer and Chateau Angludet and in 2002 they purchased Chateau Argadens in Bordeaux. The wines are made by the Chateau Palmer team and it sells for over €300 per bottle! We chose this white wine because it has beautiful colour and a fresh but powerful nose with developing notes of mango and pineapple. The palate is fresh and full bodied, with subtle oak and vanilla in the background too. It has a silky texture, and a weighty texture which will work so well with a traditional Christmas Dinner. You can expect expressive aromas of citrus, spices and vanilla scent. On the palate it is fresh and crisp, with a lingering richness that will be complimented very nicely with Christmas Day Dinner. Traditional Christmas dinner will be rich and robust, with lots of flavours on the plate, so it needs a wine that will complement that. This is that wine.

A spectacular Gran Reserva from our favourite Bodegas in all of Rioja. A small family run winery in the heart of Rioja, making the most wonderful wines. This is aged in new American Oak for 24 months and finished in French oak for a delicate and subtle balance of flavours. It is soft, with almost resolved tannins and an elegant, lengthy finish. Flavours include white pepper, leather, savoury spice and blackberry fruits. It is supple, balanced and incredibly moreish. A real treat.

we can tell you that Jean Claude Berrouet, of Chateau Petrus is behind this phenomenal Bordeaux red wine! Jean Claude, who has endearingly been called ‘The Poet of Pomerol’ was the winemaker at Chateau Petrus from 1964 to 2008, a whole 44 years. He was also winemaker at Dominus in Napa Valley in California and his style has remained the same throughout, prioritising the harmony between tannic structure and aromatic expression. Since then he has made wine with his brother Jean Francois and his sons, in and outside of France, with great success. His son Olivier became the winemaker at Chateau Petrus after he left! He has become a mentor for them and the many other winemakers around the world he has inspired, who talk about how he has taught them the importance of elegance in wine. This has character and class, power and finesse. It is refined and elegant with fine tannins and juicy fruit. There is complexity, balance and length and there is arguably not a better wine you could wish for on Christmas day!

The Cheeseboard Wine
Taylors Fine Tawny Port is incredibly versatile. It can be chilled to bring freshness. This makes it perfect as an aperitif. However, it is most widely known for its smooth and mellow character derived from the hand selected wines that are chosen for this blend. It is a pale brick colour with aromas of butterscotch, figs and prunes, interwoven with attractive nutty and spicy aromas. Smooth and round on the palate, full of rich strawberry jam flavours. Enjoy this with the Cheeseboard on Christmas Day. It will keep for well over two weeks once opened, so can be enjoyed throughout the whole festive season.
