The Christmas Day Luxury Wine Box features our favourite wines from our favourite winery partners - We are super excited to have new wines feature this year and these include the Cremant deLoire from Loire Valley Powerhouse Marques de Goulaine and the 97 Point Gold Medal winning Heaphy Estate Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Stand over other New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, because this is new and this is remarkable! Other wines new for this year is the barrel aged and fermented Voche Blanco. This is a white Viura with a difference. Golden honey in colour, it is rich and buttery, with a dry finish and flavours of toast, butter and nuts. It is remarkable with food and the slightest sip with fill your mouth with flavour.

Marques de Goulaine Cremant de Loire

The Aperitif
Start the day with a spectacular sparkling wine from The Loire Valley. This is made in the Champagne method, aged on it’s lees and stored in bottle before release for at least 18 months. All of this adds complexity and flavour. Marcel Martin is famous for his Sancerre production, but in truth he has mastered Chenin Blanc also. This bottle is a blend of 60% Chenin Blanc, 20% Chardonnay & 20% Cabernet Franc – The requirements for ageing are just 12 months, but this Cremant house is focused on quality production and it will be a great way to begin the celebrations this Christmas Day. This is Champagne without the pricetag. Perfect at 12% abv for Christmas Day.

The Main Course White
This is one of only three New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs to win a Gold Medal at this years World Wine Awards. Just 0.6% of the 19,000 wines tasted won a gold medal and scored above 95 points. The judges said this about the wine: ‘It is a bracingly pure style, bustling with fragrant gooseberries, passionfruit and vivacious nettle greens and underpinned by a zesty lemon core of sustaining acidity. Svelte and mouth- watering!’ A wine that is so fresh and crisp, will be right at home with Christmas day starters and aperitifs. It is lively and fresh, elegant and smooth and it will work incredibly well with smoked salmon, paté’s, salads, shellfish and seafood! Yum.

Voché Blanco

The Starter White
Voché comes from the Eastern part of Rioja from Bodegas Manzanos. The label is the personal seal to the Manzanos family, who make over 60 different wines at their 8 story winery in Azagra. The Voché collection consists of three wines, and they are the flagship wines of the whole estate. What can you expect here and why will this wine work so well for Christmas Day? Voché is made with the viura grape variety. It is aged in old oak barriques on their lees for over 12 months – this seasons the wine. It is less common in white wines but it adds complexity and depth. You can expect  expressive aromas of citrus, spices and vanilla scent.  On the palate it is fresh and crisp, with a lingering richness that will be complimented very nicely with Christmas Day Dinner. Traditionall Christmas dinner will be rich and robust, with lots of flavours on the plate, so it needs a wine that is equally robust and able to compete, while also being lithe and fresh enough to cut through the rich flavours. This is that wine!

Agricola La Portera Tardano

The Starter Red 
This is the very definition of a boutique, small production winery. The owner is none other than head winemaker of Contino Rioja Jorge Navascues. This is Jorge’s family winery and he brings his knowledge and knowhow to the family vineyard here, where he produces tiny amounts of really high quality grenache. This is a light and easy to enjoy wine. There is a purity of fruit here, which is down to the clay and limestone soils where this is grown. The climate here is warm, so the grapes always ripen early and produce wonderfully fragrant wines. Enjoy this lighter red with lighter dishes and starters. Some will enjoy this with the Christmas Turkey as it is quite like pinot noir with a rich elegant and smooth finish.  With a fresh and fruit-forward nose, the wine displays aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, blossom, and a hint of earthy minerality. On the palate it is juicy, focused and well balanced, with a crunchy acidity and some light drying tannins.

The Main Course Red
When it comes to Christmas dinner - exceptional wine is a must and we have delved back to our 2018 vintage stocks for this case. With Bordeaux, vintage is everything. 2018 was near perfect conditions in Bordeaux and this is a ripe, juicy wine with great balance. There is lovely weight of fruit with harmonious vanilla and wood balancing out across the palate. It is a Gold medal winning wine with good reason and it is one we import from the Ducourt family in Bordeaux. Need we say more of this plump full and rich wine, that will exude class this Christmas on your table. It is delicious and most likely to please and impress everyone at the table this Christmas! 

Domaine La Font Notre Dame Lirac Cru Rhone
Rhone Valley, France

The Cheeseboard Wine
Lirac is quite a special Cru. In general, the wines are softer than its peers. Here, it’s all about the finesse and the fruit of Grenache. The terroir in this part of the Rhone is classic limestone which gives great depth to the wine. This is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, all hand-harvested, crushed and traditionally macerated. Let this breathe for hours and it will gladly accompany your starters and your Christmas dinner itself. It is soft, elegant and gentle, with the roundness and backbone to provide real depth.
