Mura Mura, `Mercuzio` Langhe Nebbiolo
Country: Italy Region: Piemonte
Varietal: 100% Nebbiolo
Category: Red Wine Style: Dry
Producer: Mura Mura
Description:
Guido Martinetti, originally planning to follow his father into winemaking, was inspired by an article by Carlo Petrini about traditional ice cream during a visit to Gaja’s vineyard in 2002. Along with his friend Federico Grom, they opened their first gelateria, Grom, in Turin, which became an instant success due to their use of top-quality ingredients. After selling Grom in 2015, they transitioned into winemaking and founded Mura Mura, which
means ‘enjoy life slowly’ in Malagasy, bringing the same dedication to quality. Today, they own vineyards in Costigliole d’Asti, Barbaresco, and Serralunga d’Alba. Their background in farming allied to the marketing skills acquired during their Grom years makes them a unique estate in the world of wine, with their 2021 Barbarescos beginning to showcase their estate's potential.
The ‘Mercuzio’, made from the estate’s younger Nebbiolo vines, is fresh and approachable with a core of vibrant red fruit.
This is an exciting and dynamic estate that in a short space of time has made quite a splash in of the world’s greatest wine regions. Watch this space – they are a star of today and a superstar of tomorrow.
Tasting Notes:
This wine is bright ruby red in the glass. It shows floral aromas of violets and cranberries with a hint of wet stone on the nose. The palate is juicy, with tightly woven tannins and a vibrant red fruit core. It is a fresh and approachable expression of Nebbiolo, with a long and youthful finish.
