Description:
Kanonkop, nestled among the picturesque hills of Stellenbosch, is one of South Africa's most renowned estates. It began estate-bottling its first wines in 1973, yet had been providing grapes to the local cooperative for many decades prior. Their moniker, Kanonkop, originates from a hillock on the Simonsberg mountain overlooking the vineyard. Centuries ago, a cannon would sound from the hill to announce the arrival of ships into Table Bay, alerting farmers to start the 50km journey to the harbour and exchange their produce for goods.
Tasting Note:
An inviting deep plum hue, ripe with tantalizing aromas of red currants, black cherry, strawberry preserve and a hint of nutmeg and wood spice. Lusciously medium-full bodied, its palate reveals subtly polished tannins and flavors of red candied sweets, tart cherries and a wisp of nutmeg oak spice with dark chocolate. Balanced acidity brightens the red and black fruits for a refreshing, lingering finale.
