Description:
Grenache was the majority variety until no more than 30 years ago in the Rioja Baja. Arizcuren sologarnacha aims to show the benefits of this variety in a specific place, the northern slopes of the Sierra de Yerga and their suitability for cultivation. To do this, we work with some of the few old vineyards that still remain, seeking on the one hand a representative wine and, on the other, value the group that forms a variety, a conduction system (glass) and an area, the aforementioned of Sierra de Yerga.
In this way, perhaps, the process of "desertification" of the historic Garnacha vineyards that existed in this area can be reversed. The wine seeks to be an expression of the variety and of the place where it grows, so no exogenous products are used in the production (except a small amount of sulfur) and the wood is used exclusively for the wine stabilization process, without overmark it.
The grapes come from two vineyards with common soil and age characteristics: El Pastor, at an altitude of 550 meters, and El Foro, at 600 meters. In both cases, they are vineyards that are between 40 and 60 years old, planted with a high planting density in sandy soils with the presence of clay at variable depths.
