"The Poggiontondo estate is situated in the hills to the north-west of Empoli in western Tuscany. These hills are south and southwest facing, and are planted primarily with Sangiovese. Alberto Antonini's estate has been certified organic since the 2014 vintage. As a result, he has released an organic Chianti as his entry level wine. It is vibrant and delicious, a classic Chianti.
His white wine has been given added interest by the addition of Ansonica to the Vermentino. Dry and unoaked, it comes from vineyards on the Tuscan coast that Alberto manages. All the rest of the fruit comes from his estate, and is used to produce an increasingly impressive array of wines. His Chianti Superiore is a step up, showing deep, dark fruit and earthiness. His flagship wine is his 'Vigna delle Conchiglie', made solely from Sangiovese grown in the eponymous vineyard. It is silky and minerally with lovely length, depth and definition."

Vineyards:
Soils in the south-west facing vineyards are of marine origin, calcareous with a strong presence of white sea shells that impart elegance and complexity to the wines. The vines are trained in VSP (vertical shoot positioning) and Guyot pruned. The vineyards have been certified organic since the 2014 vintage.
Vinification:
The whole clusters were gently pressed and the juice naturally settled, followed by a two day cold soak pre-fermentation at 8°C. The must was then racked off the gross lees and fermented at 18°C over a period of 20 days. No malolactic fermentation was allowed to take place. The wine remained on the fine lees for a total of 60 days and was held in temperature controlled tanks until bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Lovely aromatic nose showing delicate fruit and floral aromas. On the palate this wine has gentle and refreshing acidity, with a rich texture and a savoury finish.
Food Suggestion: Pair with fresh seafood dishes or pasta generously drizzled with basil oil or pesto.
Closure: Stelvin ABV: 13% Acidity [g/l]: 5.2
