Background:
The Pomerol appellation, the smallest in the Bordeaux wine region, is located in the Libournais sub-region and covers approximately 800 hectares. The first vines of Pomerol date from the Gallo-Roman era. With world renowned Châteaux, it has never wanted to depend on a classification, unlike its neighbor Saint-Émilion. Nature has endowed it with an exceptional terroir which has earned it a prestigious appellation for red wines,
despite its small area. In Pomerol, Merlot is king! Clay being it’s favorite type of soil, allowing it to express itself like nowhere else. The Pomerols develop with age bouquets of rare complexity and great finesse while demonstrating a great aptitude for aging. They are also often compared to the great wines of Burgundy.
Today, this wine-growing setting remains one of the most famous vineyards in the world. Its tradition combined with its modernity guarantees it a most serene future. Its size, the personality of its winegrowers, the opulence of its Merlots and the specificity of its terroir guarantee originality and excellence.
Terroir:
On the western hillside of the famous Pomerol plateau, the vineyard is anchored on gravel soils on clay subsoil containing traces of iron - commonly called blue clay, which gives a pleasant wine, with a fruity bouquet, with good aptitude to aging.
Maturation:
The vineyard is conducted Organically. It is micro-managed like a garden. The vines are cultivated by hand and benefit from parcel selection work. Aging in temperature-controlled stainless steel and cement vats, then in barrels for 18 months.
Wine with a beautiful, dense purple colour. The nose is powerful with notes of black fruits, blueberries and blackcurrants, with nuances of black pepper. There are also fine aromas of vanilla and toast. On the palate the wine is full and fleshy, with a beautiful
complexity on a smooth substance. The Merlots, harvested without being over-ripe, offer both roundness, delicate and crunchy flesh and a grain that harmoniously coats the tannins that give this wine length and structure. This wine reveals all the complexity,
richness and charm for which Pomerol wines are renowned.
