Rings Spatburgunder Pinot Noir
This is an absolute steal for anyone who loves elegant, aromatic Pinot Noir, or Spätburgunder, as it is known in Germany.
Country: Germany Region: Pfalz
Varietal: Pinot Noir Vintage: 2020
Color: Red Style: Dry
Producer: Weingut Rings
About: In just over 20 years, brothers Steffen and Andy Rings have taken their family business of farming and bulk wine to high-quality bottled wine made from organically certified estate-grown fruit on plots in vineyards such as Saumagen, Steinacker and Weilberg around their base in Freinsheim, just north-east of Kallstadt in the Pfalz.
The winemaking is uncomplicated and transparent, thus showing off the quality of the hand-harvested fruit, which is sorted for a second time in the winery before spontaneous fermentation (using the yeast that is present on the grapes and in the winery) in tank and spending 12 months in used French oak barrels. There’s additional freshness from 10% whole bunches in this vintage. There’s no fining or filtration.
If your budget is stretched when it comes to red burgundy or Pinot Noir from Oregon or Central Otago, for example, this is the place to come.
Tasting Notes
Bright cherry red in the glass. Lifted cherry aromas with floral and violet notes. On the palate, this well-defined Central Otago Pinot Noir exhibits juicy red fruits. Light, soft tannins complement the savoury highlights, finishing long and bright.
