Wineonline.ie are delighted to bring you an evening with Fergal Tynan MW in 2025. The event will focus on Fergals love of grenache. Together with his business partner Giles Cooke MW, he makes wines in Australia, Spain and France in some of the most revered sites in each country for growing this grape variety. Having completed theuir master of wine programsin 2010, the duo who met when studying together, set out to make their own wines. At the time, grapes like shiraz and pinot noir were in vogue and too expensive to purchase. The two set about choosing grenache as the varietal they would specialise and today, it produces some of the best wines from the three countries they produce it in. They have the best sites and are winning awards such as ‘producers of the best grenache in Australia’ for example!

On Friday March 28th, Fergal will present Seven different wines from three countries, including Best Grenache in Australia, Thistledown The Charming Man’. The entire allocation of this wine was just 30 bottles in Ireland in 2024, so guests are in for a treat, of his best wines as well as hearing the stories of the land and vines that inspire him on his travels. He makes wine in many ther countries besides, but his focus on Grenache is on Spain, France and Australia and we will taste these wines alongside a three course meal starting at 7.30pm.

Join WineOnline.ie in Bang Restaurant on Merrion Row with Fergal Tynan for an evening with three courses, seven wines and a lot of fun! Tickets are priced at just €100 per person and included all wines, food and service charges on the evening. These events are subsidised by WineOnline.ie in order to bring you access to fine, limited and rare wines as well as the people who made them.

Fergal Tynan is a proud Irishman and hails from Leixlip in Kildare. He first started life in the Irish Wine Trade working in an Off-Licence in Raheny in North Dublin in the early 90’s. In the time since, he studied for and completed his Master of wine exams. There are just 418 people in the world today, working in 32 countries that are qualified Masters of Wine. Fergal wanted to put his qualification to use, and he was soon running his own distribution company for wines across the United Kingdom. Regular trips back to Dublin convinced him he wanted to keep ties to Ireland and he began distributing his wines in Ireland. WineOnline.ie were one of the first companies to work with him. In the early 2000’s his story became even more interesting, as he began to make wines, In France, then Italy, Spain and Australia. He now consults on winemaking projects in Chile, Argentina and America as well as continuing to make wines in all of these countries, whilst maintaining the distribution business that sells them.

Fergal will present a Masterclass with wines that he himself has made or consulted on, from Rioja in Spain, Aude in France and McLaren Vale in Australia. He will discuss the differences in climate, culture and winemaking techniques, as well as the changing style of Rioja and how the landscape is evolving quite rapidly today.
