Bodegas Aradón is a growers' winery founded in 1957 in Alcanadre, Rioja Oriental, and takes its name from a Roman villa that once stood nearby. Today it brings together nearly 50 families of second and third generation growers, with around 500 hectares of vineyards, some of them more than 90 years old.
La Garnacha Prometida comes from old Garnacha vines of around 85 years in Alcanadre and Ausejo, on clay-limestone soils at about 550 metres. It is made only in exceptional years, in a limited edition of around 2,170 bottles. The grapes are hand picked into small boxes, fermented in 500-litre barrels, and go through malolactic partly in barrel and partly in concrete egg.
Tasting Notes:
Medium cherry red. Fresh red fruit, raspberry, cherry and redcurrant, with Mediterranean herbs and a subtle spiced background, opening to white pepper, soft liquorice and damp earth. Soft entry, fluid body, polished tannins and a slightly balsamic, medium-long finish.
