Glendalough Launch 13 Old Mizunara Finish Single Malt Whiskey

Glendalough Distillery has just launched the first Irish whiskey finished in Japanese mizunara oak: Glendalough 13 Year Old. The single malt expression has spent 13 years in ex-Bourbon barrels, before being finished in mizunara oak casks. It is bottled at 46% abv and is said to have notes of sandalwood, honey and citrus. It has an RRP of £85 (€95) per 700ml. The 13-year-old is one of a trio of new whiskeys due to be released by Glendalough this year. The range will also include a Double Barrel expression and a Seven Year Old Single Malt. The Glendalough Double Barrel expression is bottled in 42% abv and has been aged for three years in Bourbon barrels, before spending up to a year in 500-litre oloroso casks from Montilla. It is said to have notes of vanilla, raisins, sultanas, fig, candied peel, cinnamon and nutmeg. It has an RRP of €39 per bottle. Glendalough’s new Irish whiskeys include a seven-year-old single malt and a double barrel aged variant Bottled at 46% abv, Glendalough Seven Year Old Single Malt is matured in ex-Black Pitts Porter barrels to give flavours of chocolate malt, roasted barley, cocoa, toffee and dark chocolate orange. The suggested retail price is €49 per bottle. All three whiskeys will be packaged in the brand’s new bottle design, which is being rolled out across its entire range, including Glendalough Wild Botanical Gin and Mountain Strength Poitín.
