Vesevo, Beneventano Falanghina
Country: Italy Region: Campania Vintage: 2021
Varietal: Falanghina Category: White Wine
Producer: Vesevo
PRODUCER
The name Vesevo is the historic name for Vesuvius. The vineyards
are located in the Irpinian hills of Campania, potentially one of
Italy's most exciting wine producing areas. Despite being so far
south, there are large differences here between day and night
temperatures, making the harvest here one of the latest in Italy.
VINEYARDS
The vineyards are situated between 450-550 metres above sea
level and benefit from a cool breeze that blows off the Bay of
Naples. This same breeze has, over the centuries, blown volcanic
ash from Vesuvius inland, giving the soil here a volcanic character
rich in minerals and trace elements. This lends a great depth of
flavour to the grapes.
VINIFICATION
Once arrived at the winery, grapes were carefully selected and
gently pressed. To preserve the aromatic characters of
Falanghina, the must was chilled immediately in order to achieve
settling. The settled must was fermented in temperature controlled
stainless steel tanks at 12-14°C. The wine remained in stainless steel
tanks until bottling, with no malolactic fermentation. Regular lees
stirring took place to impart more flavour and body to the wine.
The wine underwent cold stabilisation and filtration before bottling.
TASTING NOTES
Bright straw yellow in colour, the Falanghina 2020 has intense
perfumes of white flowers and white melon with mineral notes that
provide a backdrop to the full, ripe palate. An elegant wine, with
a lingering touch of honey on the finish.
