***GOLD MEDAL IRISH WINE AWARDS - 'BEST FOR VALUE WINE IN IRELAND 2017'
Country: Spain Region: Rioja
Vintage: 2014 Colour: Red Style: Dry
Producer: Bodegas Vega
The winery at Rioja Vega was overhauled in 2001 and their wines have surged forward. From Tempranillo with a little Mazuelo and Garnacha, this smooth, soft, richly-fruited red, has spice and vanilla from 9 months in American oak.
This Gold Star award winning wine Rioja Vega Semi-Crianza featured in the Irish Times Weekend Magazine on Saturday November 19th 2017. Wine journalist John Wilson featured it as his Wine of the Week and it was suitably given the title “Bargain Bottle”.
Rioja Vega Semi-Crianza was given the title of Best Value Red Wine at the recent Irish Wine Show held in October and currently retails at €11.50 but has been well recognised that the quality of the wine far surpasses its excellent price-point.
Complex array of aromas on the nose, with notes of red fruits and liquorice and subtle hints of toast, spices and cinnamon.
