Description
Pio Cesare has been producing wine for more than 100 years and through generations. The tradition began in 1881, when Pio Cesare started gathering grapes in his vineyards and purchasing those of some selected and reliable farmers in the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco districts.

At Pio Cesare, there has always been a conviction that great wine can come only from the finest grapes and the winery's output has always been limited through adherence to the highest standards. Pio Cesare limits its production by using only the most mature and healthy grapes. The ripening of the grapes is carefully monitored and the harvest is rigidly controlled with each grape selected by hand.

Today, the estate is managed by Pio Boffa, great-grandson of Pio Cesare. Under his stewardship, the wines of Pio Cesare have become famous throughout the world. Great strides have been made in quality, and single vineyard offerings have dazzled the wine press.

93 Pts James Suckling
"A firm and fine-tannined red with strawberries and some cedar. It’s medium-bodied with pretty tannins and a long, bright finish. Drink or hold."

91 Pts Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"This is a pretty wine with lots of energy and a bright, tonic personality. Perfect for lean cuts of veal or pork, the Pio Cesare 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo offers a straight-shooting succession of easy fruit aromas, cassis, rose and pencil shavings. It’s all delivered over a lean-bodied mouthfeel."

Vinification
The blend is enriched by a small proportion of grapes from the Barbaresco and Barolo region, which provide body, structure and a long ageing potential. Nebbiolo grapes for the Pio Cesare Nebbiolo Langhe DOC are hand-picked and gently pressed and fermented at 25 to 26°C. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, with skin contact for 12 days. The wine is then aged in medium-toasted French oak for 20 months: 20% in barriques, 80% in 20-50 hectolitre casks.

Tasting Notes
Fragrant, ripe, raspberry and cherry fruit with floral rose touches. Rounded, silky and well integrated tannins give this wine structure and longevity. The wine is rich, with a hint of gentle, smoky toasting.
