"The Molinico Loco wines are made by Familia Castaño and display the exceptionally good value, modern packaging and whistle-clean, fruit forward style that are hallmarks of the family's other wines.

Molinico Loco is the affectionate name for the windmill ('molino') that sits on the edge of the Castaño vineyards where the grapes are grown. In contrast to other windmills, which turn in windy conditions, this particular windmill is 'loco' (the Spanish for crazy) as it turns only on calm, still days.

The vineyards are located at an altitude of 500 metres above sea level and have a north-south orientation. The soils are sandy with a lime content that gives the wines a good level of minerality. The average age of the vines is 17 years and they are planted at an average density of 2,700 vines per hectare, trellised and pruned short.

The Blanco is 100% Macabeo and displays wonderful varietal fruit characteristics of fresh peach and white flower blossom. On the palate it is lively and soft, with juicy fruit and a zesty finish. The Tinto shows pure, juicy, vibrant Monastrell fruit, with mouthwatering red and black fruit flavours and soft, silky tannins."

Vineyards:

The vineyards are located at an altitude of 750 metres above sea level. They are dry-farmed and the limestone soil is poor, meaning that the roots of the vines grow deep into the earth in their search for minerals and nutrients. This helps to ensure healthy, ripe and flavoursome grapes. The Monastrell vineyards are over 50 years old, while the Syrah vines are slightly younger, averaging around 15 years.

Vinification:

"The grapes were crushed very lightly before being
fermented and macerated on their skins for 10 days at a controlled temperature of 24-26ºC in stainless steel tanks.
After fermentation the wine was aged very briefly in oak to
round out the tannins. The gentle handling preserved the
natural fruit purity and freshness that is so typical of the
Molinico Loco style."

Tasting Notes:

A beautiful deep and vibrant red colour, with purple hues on the rim. On the nose it shows elegant ripe red plum and cherry notes. The palate is very well structured, with soft tannins and a delicate, fruity finish.

Food Suggestion: Easy to enjoy with traditional tapas dishes like patatas bravas, meatballs or chorizo.

Closure: Stelvin  ABV: 13.5%  Acidity [g/l]: 5.3
