Description:

The Guigal domain was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis; a small, ancient village at the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. It is overlooked by unique vineyards where vines and wine have been celebrated for over 2,400 years.

Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, in Ampuis, Guigal remains 100% family owned and run by the second and third generations. Philippe Guigal, third generation is Guigal' s winemaker and together with his father Marcel, has ensured that Guigal wines have established a reputation for being benchmarks of their category; with Viognier and Syrah grapes being their true passion. In Philippe’s own words “A great wine should be enjoyed and shared in good company and if it arouses passion and emotion then this wine from the Maison Guigal will have achieved its true meaning?. These vines were planted on slopes by the Romans 24 centuries ago, where this illustrious vineyard is made up of the Côte Brune, upstream of the Reynard and the Côte Blonde which is downstream. Planted almost exclusively with Syrah, the Côte Brune produces a powerful, intense wine. Thanks to a dash of Viognier which compliments the Syrah, the Côte Blonde is more subtle.
