Description:

Disznókő is an estate located in Tokaj , Hungary . Declared Premier Cru in 1732, warmed by a constant summer heat rising off the Great Plain to the south, and protected from the cold winter winds by the Zemplén Mountains to the north. Disznókő has a single plot of land with 104 hectares of vineyards among the 150 hectares of the property, and the wine cellars are located in the vineyard. Historically owned by various aristocratic families, the estate was nationalized under communist governments in the 20th century.
Furmint is a classic Hungarian grape most noteworthy for its use in sweet Tokaji wines — but it’s also used in dry winemaking, as in this example from Disznoko. If you like American viognier, you might want to give a Hungarian furmint a try!

Tasting Note:
Extremely aromatic and very floral, this wine is one of the most acidic wines I’ve tasted in recent memory, an exploration of perfumed jasmine, sandalwood, and honeysuckle, quite sharp and biting. A lemon-lime note gives the finish even more acidity, slowly segueing from there into notes of lavender and, ultimately, a surprising hint of vanilla.

Food Matches: Try with grilled seafood, or rich poultry dishes.
