Description:
Château Vaugelas grows a 150-ha vineyard on the municipality of Camplong d’Aude, between mount Alaric and the Black Mountain (Montagne Noire). Belonging to the Bonfils family since 2000, the estate owns a wine storehouse containing over 400 barrels, renews by a third each year, concrete vats but also two original wooden tapered vats containing up to 80hl, which allow a remarkable pumping work.
From the 16th century onward, Benedictine monks planted vines on this magnificent terroir made of shaly and gravelly screes brought via the Orbieu river, which runs at the borders of the estate. At the time, Château Vaugelas supplied the abbey of Lagrasse with wine.
Tasting Note:
A youthful, fruity, forward effort revealing lots of mulberry and blueberry-like fruits as well as medium-bodied richness, a fleshy, juicy, layered mouthfeel, soft tannins, and plenty of background bouquet, violet, and peppery nuances.
