Description:
Created in around 1680, Château Latour is one of the oldest vineyards in the Médoc. There is a central plot known as the ¿Enclos¿ which consists of 47 hectares of old vines that are maintained with extreme care, as they are the ones that are used to make the grand vin. Another 18 hectares of external plots, consisting of vines that are less than ten years-old and potentially declassified plots are used to produce the property's second wine, Les Forts de Latour.
Latour's wines show exemplary consistency, whatever the quality of the vintage. Firm, tannic and concentrated in their youth, they require long cellaring to reveal the full depth of their power and extraordinary richness. When perfectly mature, the wine has an incredible bouquet of blackcurrants, hazelnuts and leather. A monumental wine.
Tasting Note:
This is so decadent and exciting on the nose, with very ripe fruit, tobacco, meat and cedar. Full-bodied, offering amazing raspberry fruit in the core of the palate. Ultrapolished, velvety tannins wonderfully coat every inch of your palate. This will age for years ahead, but it's so lovely now. Much better than many people think. (JS, Web-2010)
