In Santa Marinha do Zêzere, Baião, in the southeast of the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region, right in the heart of the Douro valley, the Cazas Novas project was born, proposing a unique journey through the study and interpretation of one of the most exciting Portuguese white grape varieties – Avesso.
The name Cazas Novas is inspired by one of the centuries-old farms where the Cunha Coutinho family has accumulated what is, in the heart of the Baião sub-region, the largest area dedicated to the cultivation of this Portuguese white grape variety. In total, a treasure trove of 24 hectares, concentrated in the area considered to be the prime stage for the expression of this exclusive variety.
In a transition zone between Vinho Verde and Douro, and with the river as an influence and backdrop, the hillside vineyards, on granite soils, face high temperature ranges, in a terroir of excellence for the Avesso grape variety, producing unique wines, unparalleled in any other region, which are characterised by their freshness and minerality, but also by their potential for evolution.
Tasting Notes:
Attractive, bright, citrus colour, a white with good intensity and aromatic concentration, dominated by floral components and white fruit, apple, a slight fresh herbaceousness linked to its youth on the palate reveals the quality of the Avesso variety through its volume and creaminess balanced by good acidity resulting in a good, lively and elegant finish.
Food Suggestion: Excellently paired with seafood, shellfish, poultry and mild cheese.
