On the 1st of Each month we release a special compilation of wines which are typically just in, new to the range and offer superb quality and value. In the main they are wines which we source from boutique wineries and import ourselves with a few household names added. Take a leap into July's Case of the month.
2 x 75cl
Rosabelle is a dry rosé wine from the Languedoc, South of France. The vineyards are located a few miles from the Mediterranean Sea and are drenched in sunshine.
To create a fresh and fruity rosé with refreshing crispness, the grapes are harvested at night when the temperature is cool. The juice is sent after a gentle pressing to fermentation at low temperature in stainless steel tanks, enhancing the elegant aromatic profile of strawberry and raspberry notes. The wine stays on its fine lees at least two months and is stirred periodically providing a smooth texture and finish. The fresh and vivid fruit flavors on the palate make Rosabelle the perfect aperitif wine or accompaniment to lighter summer fare.
Peter Lehman 'Portrait Series' Cabernet Sauvignon
Barossa Valley, Australia
2 x 75cl
If you were to paint a portrait of Peter Lehmann it would have real depth and character, just like the man himself! When pressured by his bosses in the 1970’s to renege on a hand-shake deal he’d struck with the growers, Peter Lehmann said ‘to hell with them’ and – with the help of the local community – bought all the grapes himself. Peter Lehmann’s winery was created in 1979. For his style and skill as a winemaker, and for his backing of the Barossa and its growers, Peter Lehmann has become a living legend in the Barossa.
There are currently over 140 grape growers throughout the region that supply the company with quality fruit for the company’s extensive range of wines. The Peter Lehmann brand is synonymous with the quality and consistency that one has come to expect from Australian wines. The colour is deep red with a dense black centre, and the nose gives tantalising aromas of chocolate, blackcurrants, with hints of nutmeg, cloves and star anise. It is a beautifully rich Cabernet with superb depth of seamless fruit. A supple wine, it is lively and inviting and finishes satisfyingly firm.
Mirus Vinho Verde
Cávado, Barcelos, Vinho Verde
2 x 75cl
As the weather warms up, you may find yourself walking into a wine shop and instinctively grabbing for a tall, thin bottle, tinted green and sealed with a screw top, anticipating the satisfaction of the light, bubbly, crisp white wine known as Vinho Verde. Mirus is one of our favourite Vinho Verde Wines, after we tried it in Portugal on holidays last year.
On a summer afternoon, it’s really the perfect drink. Although Vinho Verde’s popularity in the last decade has surged, there are a lot of misconceptions out there about this affordable and versatile wine. In fact, there’s far more to Vinho Verde than a little spritz—and Portuguese wine culture in general is full of history and intrigue. Surprise your friends at the next barbeque by serving them this spritzy refreshing wine. The winemaker injects a little carbon dioxide into the wine before bottling and the result is a refreshing spritz that is perfect for summer weather. Easy drinking and very enjoyable, perhaps too easy drinking!
Castillo de Eneriz Reserva
2 x 75cl
Castillo de Eneriz Reserva is a mature blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Garnacha. Despite its age the wine retains great acidity, concentrated fruit balanced by mellow, well integrated oak. A real wow wine for those who enjoy older vintages. This one's 2013.
The vineyards are located in three of the five sub-areas of de D.O. Navarra with different orientations that allow for considerable variability, and contribute the particular traits of each sub-area. Strict vineyard controls allow the producer to obtain grapes of the highest quality.
Intense ruby-red with tawny hues, typical of ageing. Great aromatic intensity of fine toasty notes blending into the fruit. Hints of stewed fruit and cinnamon. Intense, elegant attack with well-structured tannings and good acidity, with fine notes of ripe fruit returning against a background of excellent wood. Long, enveloping finish.
2 x 75cl
The Garnacha used for this wine come from the best vineyards around Northern Spain. The vines are predominantly grown on clay-limestone soil, and minimal intervention is practised. Grapes are all hand-picked in early October. The producer, Vic Manzanos, has become one of the most important producers in Rioja. He is a fourth generation producer, keen to prove that Rioja Baja, is as important an area as Rioja Alta or Rioja Alavesa.
Los Espinos Merlot
Central Valley, Chile
2 x 75cl
Los Espinos combines cutting edge winemaking, with regional typicity to provide a range that is at the beating heart of Chile. The Los Espinos Merlot is sourced from selected vineyard sites across Chile's Central Valley. The cooling influences of the Andes and the Humboldt current together with the diurnal temperature difference here allows for slow ripening so that the grapes develop maximum flavour. This is a simply outstanding wine for the money, soft super-juicy ripe plummy fruit and a long full-flavoured finish. A lovely drink on its own or enjoy with pasta or barbequed meats.
