We all know that Sauvignon Blanc is a New Zealand grape variety..What its French.
In France its most well known home is the Loire but it also keeps an apartment in Bordeaux where it shares the room with Semillon ( another story )
New Zealand has been known for its exuberant style of Sauvignon Blanc from the sunny region of Marlborough and this wine confirms this. Normally we would say the younger the Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand the better, but this threw us.
The freshness and vibrancy of this wine is remarkable. The nose has Grapefruit, green pepper and Zesty lime and the palate is mouth watering beyond belief.
Coteaux, Cotes du Rhone Villages
2 x 75cl Bottles
A clean fresh and mineral driven chardonnay from Abruzzo. Grapes here are picked earlier than the red grapes for ripeness, and freshness, without overripening sugar levels and higher alcohol. The result is a wine in great harmony and balance.
McGuigan Reserve Shiraz 2015
2 x 75 Bottles
Another Grape that has its origins in the Northern Rhone where it is the Primary grape in Hermitage and Cote Rotie, but when It made its way over to Australia it became Shiraz.
This wine was a Gold Star Winner 2019/2020 Irish wine of the year awards . The first thing you notice about this wine is the lovely berry and spice aromas. Following this is the wonderful flavours of spicy plum, cherry and blackberry that flow through the mouth, resulting in an approachable fruit driven wine with a smooth and mouth filling finish. It is nicely balanced with great fruit characters and a persistence of flavour.
This is not a wine that needs food, but if you were going to eat, match it with a peppered steak or a casserole.
