These are the 12 wines we discovered in 2025 that inspired us most. At various tastings our team tasted over 600 wines throughout the year and we always rate them based on quality, value and the ‘Would I want another glass’ scale which rates from 1–10, with 10 being highest. It was hard of course to narrow it to just 12 wines, but we are delighted to present what we see as the 12 best wines in Independent retail in Ireland in 2025. There are 6 reds and 6 whites and they are available as a mixed dozen with 15% off, with one bottle of each wine, while stocks last. For the first time you can also order a 6 or 12 bottle case of all reds, or all whites too.

Ruffino La Solataia Pinot Grigio
Tuscany, Italy
Not all Pinot Grigio is created equally. In Spring 2025, we tasted this Pinot Grigio from Ruffino & we were really impressed.
Standing out here is the minerality this wine has. The vines are planted in Schist and granite soils & they produce a wine of remarkable freshness & intensity.
Its lovely to taste a Pinot Grigio at this level, because there isn’t much of it around.

Abel Mendoza Jarrarte Blanco
Rioja, Spain
‘If I could only drink one wine for the rest of my lifetime, this would be it’ says Will at WineOnline.ie.
The Producer makes small plot wines in the hills of Rioja & is relatively ungheard of. Abel Mendoza is obsessive about terroir and producing the best wines from the land he’s been given.
If you do try this one, don’t tell too many people about it! It has all the hallmarks of Burgundy, without any oak, and without the price-tag.

Lu Castelline Pecorino
Abruzzo, Italy
A wonderful wine of texture and depth. Barrel Fermented in Slavonian oak to give richness and body. Green apples, herbs and lemon flavours as well as floral aromas and white flowers. The wine is harvested later to give an intensity to the grapes. The acidity is well balanced and theres simply a really lovely roundness overall. Wines of this calibre often tend to be over the €30 mark. At €22 less 15% as part of this case, we think you’ll love it.

Domaine de Pellehaut Rosé
Cotes de Gascogne, France
From Gascony in the south Of France, we’ve been chasing this wine for years, and were thrilled to finally source it last May ahead of the great summer we had this year. Crisp & pale rosé, picked early to maintain its acidity and freshness. It is a light colour, and it is only 10.5% abv. It was the biggest selling rosé of 2025 and was a must for a wine Of The Year. Packs of flavour & low alcohol.

Wildeberg Terroirs Chardonnay
Franschhoek, South Africa
Why we don’t drink more South African wines in Ireland is a mystery. This is delicate with citrus & stone fruit & tropical notes as it opens up. Give it 15 minutes in the glass and it becomes bigger, fuller, richer and powerful. The finish has spice, toast and white pepper.

Undoubtedly one of the great finds of 2025. We were delighted to discover that Ruffino wines had no representation in Ireland earlier this year so we started working with them to import the wines. Viejas Tinajas Cinsault
Itata Valley, Chile
A wine from one of Chile’s leading producers. Modern in style it is fresh and crisp, with 6 months ageing in a Tinajas Amphora clay pot. No use of oak here dark violet with floral notes, mingled with succulent red and black fruits on the nose. The palate displays red cherry, locked in with rich blackberry fruit, light bodied with soft tannins, finishing with more red fruit, earthy with hints of spice. An excellent red that needs time to open up and consume young. Best served with soft cheese, shell fish and cold dishes.

Rocca Antica Negroamaro di Salento
Puglia, Italy
We first tasted this inn June when winemaker Paolo Di Camillo, came to Dublin and brought a few cases of his latest creation with him. This was it and it was the favourite of over 16 wines tasted by customers over two days. Deep ruby red wine with pronounced aromas of stewed prunes and cherries. Dry with smooth tannin structure and big weight of ripe plummy fruit - black cherries and 'Christmas cake' flavours. Lovely length and balance with a flavour that lingers long on the palate. It is just €16 and it is available sitewide now!

Lopez de Haro Crianza
Logrogno, Rioja, Spain
The slopes of Sonsierra in Rioja produce some of the most elegant Rioja wines, in part due to the altitude & in part to the terroir. The critics love this wine and its no surprise. ‘For this level of quality, this wine is a bargain’, writes Neal Martin. Our team have a fondness for this wine over many reserva Rioja wines that are more expensive. It offers upfront fruit, with power and structure behind it. If trading up this Christmas, this would be a great all round wine to have to please everyone.
