Description:
VINEYARD: Situated in the village of Cairanne, Domaine Grosset belongs to Alain Grosset, Laurent Brotte’s father-in-law. The Grosset family has always been very active in the life of the village, especially in the development of its AOC. Domaine Grosset, just below the old town, covers 10ha and has Grenache vines of up to 100 years in age. The vineyard consists of two different types of soil: red earth on sandstone and terraces of white clay and sandy molasses. The warm, dry Mediterranean climate is perfect for the 10ha of land we vinify.
VINIFICATION: Hand-picked with the first grape selection carried out in the vineyard. Fast transport of the fruit to the winery in small cases in order to avoid juice release and oxidation. Destalking and further selection of the berries on the sorting table is followed by gentle crushing. Alcoholic fermentation and maceration for 3 to 4 weeks with one pump-over a day during this period. Maturation for 12 months in French oak for 50% of the production and 50% in oak cask. Bottled after light filtration.
TASTING NOTES:
Colour – Intense ruby colour with garnet glints.
Nose – Very elegant with complex aromas of red berries, warm spices and dry forest floor.
Palate – Mouth warming and unctuous, its palate follows through from the nose with hints of cinnamon and red peppercorns married with ripe wild berries and prunes. The tannins are elegant giving way to a long and chocolatey toasted finish.
FOOD AND WINE MATCHING: Serve at 17 °C.
Enjoy with pheasant terrine, wild mushroom risotto, chicken ragout with black olives or a selection of cheeses - particularly blue.
