"Capezzana, situated in the Carmignano zone to the west of Florence, is owned and run by the Contini Bonacossi family, the latest in a long line of owners dating back to 804. They are certain of this date as they discovered in the archives of Florence a contract signed in 804 for the rent of vines and olive groves at Capezzana. Today, the responsibility for ensuring the continuation of such longevity now lies with siblings Benedetta and Vittorio Contini Bonacossi, who look after the winery and the vineyards respectively. Franco Bernabei is now consulting at Capezzana, and his presence is evident in the big step up in quality we've seen in the 2013 Barco Reale.

The estate now has 90 hectares of vineyard, all of which are cultivated organically. The balance in the vineyard is now being preserved in the wines. The Vin Ruspo is dry and scented and delicious, while the reds are all displaying supple and silky tannins. It is exciting to see this ancient estate being revitalised by its current 'guardians'."

Product Features: Certified Organic;Sustainable

Winemaker: Benedetta Contini Bonacossi

Vineyards:

Grapes are grown on 90 hectares of vineyard in the Carmignano DOC. The vineyards are situated at approximately 150-200 metres above sea level, facing south, south-east and south-west. Soils are schistous clay.

Vinification:

Vin Ruspo is always made from the free-run juice racked off the Capezzana Carmignano before fermentation begins but after maceration. Maceration on the skins took place in stainless steel tanks and lasted 24-36 hours before racking. Fermentation lasted approximately 15 days at 16-18°C and was followed immediately by malolactic fermentation. The wine remained in stainless steel tanks until bottling and then matured for at least three months in bottle before release.

Tasting Notes:

A good depth of colour with vivacious cherry and strawberry perfumes on the nose. Clean and fresh on the palate, with all the character of a red wine but none of the tannic grip. An excellent balance between ripe fruit and well-balanced acidity means it never displays the cloying sweetness often associated with rosé wines.

Food Suggestion: A great food wine, try with tomato based pasta or meaty pizzas.

Closure: Stelvin  ABV: 13.5%  Acidity[g/l]: 5.17  Classification: AOC
