Rhum Clément Vieux Agricole XO
When Homère Clément, (born in 1852 in Trinité, Martinique), acquired the Habitation and founded Rhum Clément in 1887; little did he realize that he was creating a lasting legacy. Today 18th century Habitation Clément is one of the oldest estates on the island. Bernard Hayot bought Habitation Clément in 1986, and opened it to the public in 1988.
Most rum is made from molasses (a by-product of the sugar production), but the funkier Rhum Agricole is crafted from free-run sugarcane juice, giving it plant-like flavours and more sense of terroir. Think of it as the natural wine of the rum world. Homère Clément is widely seen as the father of Rhum Agricole (although it was his son, Charles, who perfected the family recipe), and the distillery that bears his name remains one of the finest proponents of this style. Their rhum is only produced for two months a year, when the sugarcane is ripe and fresh.
ABV 42%
Habitation Clément releases every year carefully selected aged Rhum Agricole as part of their Grand Reserve portfolio. With a beautiful dark mahogany colour, Clément 6 year old Rhum Agricole has been distilled from fresh pressed sugarcane juice and aged a minimum of six years in a combination of virgin and re-charred oak barrels, yielding an exceptional aged Agricole Rhum, with a beautiful smoky aroma and long lingering finish.
This rum is accentuated by the intense charred wood flavours balanced by the natural sweetness of the sugarcane distillate and displays some of the finest floral notes and pure character of the Clément cellar.
