Description:
Château Gros Caillou is a historic domain of the Saint-Émilion appellation created in 1880 a stone's throw from the city listed as World Heritage by UNESCO. The Château Gros Caillou benefits from the specific specifics to the terroir of Saint-Émilion; Composed of a sablo-gravel soil, it is this particular and precious terroir that allows it to produce balanced and elegant wines. For more than 4 generations, this estate situated in Saint Sulpice de Faleyrens –near Saint Emilion- is the property of the Dupuy family, always empassionnated by terroir, tradition and quality. In 1981, Jacques Dupuy began to manage this estate of 11 hectares.
Since 1984, due to Jacques Dupuy, the vineyard increased significantly, and now spreads on 20 hectares (50 acres). Today, with his son Eric they manage Château Gros Caillou and have achieved a great effort to improve the facilities.

"The 2016 Gros Caillou is a blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from vines located on a particular plot of more gravelly soils in Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens. I actually mentioned this on social media when I tasted it and, apparently within an hour, the négociants were on the phone. It has a ripe bouquet with opulent black cherry and bilberry scents, becoming more and more floral in the glass. It has a disarming purity. The palate is sweet and ripe on the entry, but there is a lovely thread of acidity here, the 50% new oak neatly entwined on the plush and sensual finish. It stands as a great excuse not to buy more expensive Saint-Émilion. If you find a better value Saint-Émilion in 2016, let me know."

"Interesting aromas of spearmint and cedar to the dark-berry character, following through to a medium body, with polished and tight, velvety tannins and a lightly bitter finish. Should soften with age."
Tasting Note:
Deep concentration and layers of complexity including oak, tobacco and spice. Ripe bouquet with opulent black cherry and bilberry scents, becoming more and more floral in the glass. Pure, ripe red fruits, very smooth on the finish.
