Valentino Sciotti is involved with a number of wineries in Puglia, Campania (he is the man behind Vesevo) and his native Abruzzi. The Gran Sasso wines are made by winemakers Francesco De Santis and young winemaker Rino Santeusanio and display a freshness and directness of fruit that sets them apart from other wines from this area.
Made with the most famous grape variety in central Italy, grown in old vineyards in Coline Terramane. The Gran Sasso is a massif located in Abruzzo, in central Italy. The nearest cities are Téramo and L'Aquila. The highest peak in Gran Sasso is Corno Grande, at 2,912 meters high. It is from this beautiful place that this wine of elegance is born.
Tasting Notes:
Gran Sasso Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Italian wine is deep ruby hue, with garnet reflections. Clean, fresh and plummy on the nose whilst rich, supple and accessible on the palate. It is balanced and full-bodied with good tannins. The fresh, primary fruit characters are maximised by the fact that it does not age in oak, making it approachable and ready to drink.
Food Suggestion: Have this super versatile wine with some mature soft cheese or alternatively with charcuterie.
