Glenmorangie 'The Infinita' 18 Year Old Scotch Whisky
Part of Glenmorangie’s Prestige Range, a thick, creamy and fruity single malt presented in a wonderfully elegant bottle, it certainly looks prestigious. The 18 Year Old has always been one of the best of the Glenmorangie whiskies. And it has won a fistful of medals from the top whisky awards, including the Gold Outstanding title in the Scotch Single Malt Highland section of the International Wine & Spirit Contest Awards and Best Highland Single Malt in the World Whiskies Awards.
The whisky is meticulously made. After 15 years’ maturation in American white-oak, ex-bourbon casks, around 30% is transferred into Spanish Oloroso sherry casks for three years. When both parts have reached 18 years, they are then blended together. The Oloroso casks provide an incredible degree of vibrancy, while the American oak balances the raisin-like sweetness of the sherry.
The Infinita is said to be a favourite of Glenmorangie's director of whisky creation Dr Bill Lumsden. He said: “For me, Glenmorangie Infinita encapsulates every element of our house style in perfect harmony and is our most deliciously complex creation. A favourite with whisky lovers old and new, it seamlessly unites subtle sherry-cask hints and woody notes from its great age, with our distillery’s signature soft and fruity character. The result is a beautifully balanced single malt so multi-layered, it’s as if you are drinking a different whisky every time.
Nose: Creamy and tangy notes of citrus, cinnamon, stewed fruits and caramel-drizzled panna cotta.
Palate: The palate is tropical and creamy with nectarines in yoghurt, acacia honey, peaches in cream and butterscotch.
Finish: Ends on tangy oak and grilled grapefruit with plenty of dark sugar caramelised on top…
