Dawson James Pinot Noir
Country: Australia Region: Tasmania
Varietal: Pinot Noir Vintage: 2021
Colour: Red Style: Dry
Producer: Dawson James
Description:
Dawson James Pinot Noir 2024 (Tasmania) was awarded a Platinum Medal (97 points) at the 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards, placing it among just 196 Platinum winners from nearly 17,000 wines entered worldwide—only 1.18% of all entries.
For Dawson James, this recognition is especially significant because Decanter's Platinum medals are awarded only after multiple rounds of blind tasting by senior international experts, including Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers. The wine was judged to be one of the finest Pinot Noirs in the competition, reinforcing Tasmania's reputation as one of the world's premier cool-climate Pinot Noir regions.
Dawson & James is the project of Peter Dawson and Tim James who met in 1976 when they were both working for Hardy & Sons. They have since moved on to different projects, including Willunga 100 in McLaren Vale for Tim, but have collaborated again to produce the Dawson & James wines in Tasmania.
Tasting Note:
The Pinot Noir offers delicacy with finely woven fruit and oak, a creamy texture and flavour of wild strawberries. Complex and layered, with a wonderfully long, smooth finish.
Food Matches: Australian Pinot Noir is a wonderfully versatile food wine. Just some of the various pairings are Comté, Gruyère, Duck, Game, Turkey, Salmon
