Description:
Established in 1966, It is located in the mountainous commune of Alagni (440 metres above sea-level), south of the city of Heraklion, in Crete. The well-preserved 14th-century stone-presses in the fields around the winery are testament to the area’s long history of grape-growing and winemaking.
Liatiko is the pride of Crete in the red varieties, with Sitia having plenty of self-rooted and pre-phylloxera vines. The vineyard “Aggelis” is more than 130 years old, at an altitude of 500-600m.
Tasting Note: Tasted blind this wine was mistaken for a Barolo from Piedmont that costs twice the price being asked for this wine. The aromas of ripe cherry, forest fruit and strawberry stand out, in a light botanical background with Barolo type tannins and a beautiful Pinot Noir type appearance.
Food Matches: This wine needs fatty type meats ,casseroles or some blue cheese would be perfect.
