Described by the late Steven Spurrier as "Croatia’s best winemaker", Ivica Matošević has established himself as a force of nature in the country’s turbulent yet burgeoning wine industry. His incredible family history simply explains the last 100 years: “My grandfather was born in Austria, my father was born in Italy, I was born in Yugoslavia and my daughter was born in Croatia. We were all born in the same house”. His unbridled passion, which led him to divert his career from a PhD in agriculture, to winemaking, is reflected in his wines, which are exuberant, fresh and true to their nature. Ivica is widely recognised as one of the leaders of the quality revolution amongst his peers and was instrumental in setting up the Istrian appellation and establishing the wildly popular annual wine fair which takes place there to promote the wines.

Vinification:
The hand-picked grapes were meticulously sorted before being destemmed and crushed. Fermentation took place on the skins at controlled temperatures for around two weeks. After fermentation, the wine was aged in small, used oak barrels for 15 months, after
which it was blended and aged in stainless steel tanks. The wine was then bottled and spent several months in the Matošević cellar prior to release.

Product Features: Certified Organic, Vegetarian, Vegan

Tasting Notes:
This wine is a vibrant ruby in colour. A mixture of bramble, plum and red cherry dominate the nose, complemented by hints of chocolate and spice. The palate is fresh and juicy, with soft tannins, an elegant structure and lifted minerality on the finish.

Food Suggestion: Wild fowl (duck, pheasant) and hearty stew dishes match well with the wine's structure.
