Country: France Region: Beaujolais
Varietal: Chardonnay
Colour: White Style: Dry
Producer: Jean-Marc Burgaud
Description:
Jean-Marc Burgaud was recently dubbed ‘Monsieur Côte du Py’ by Bourgogne Aujourd’hui magazine. His fine domaine has seven hectares of vineyard on the Côte du Py in Morgon, making the Burgaud family the biggest owner of vines on this famous hill. Jean -Marc is originally from Lantignié and his wife, Christine, is from Morgon, the 11.5 hectares in Morgon were inherited from her side of the family
The Beaujolais Villages Blanc illustrates Jean-Marc’s versatility. The Gamay planted initially on this one hectare of clay soil, wasn’t producing the sort of wines he was looking for, yet he thought it might be suited to Chardonnay. The resulting wine is fermented in tank, with malolactic fermentation blocked to retain freshness. Unoaked, bright and lively, it is just as delicious and individual as Jean-Marc’s red wines.
Tasting Note: Expressive with notes of citrus and stone fruits on the nose. The palate is bright and lively with racy acidity giving this wine wonderful freshness.
