"Jean-Claude Boisset is a private family-owned wine company that was founded in 1961. Jean-Claude’s first parcel of land was located in Gevrey-Chambertin. The Boisset Family makes wines from vineyards all over France and in America. But their home is in Burgundy and their offices and winery are located in an old Ursuline convent in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
Monthélie is one of the smallest appellations in the Côte de Beaune, with a mere 120 ha of planted vines, including its minuscule 7.5 ha production of Chardonnay. The altitude is around 280 metres, with steep slopes and a south-easterly exposure which give the grapes excellent maturity year after year. The ground here is so-called ‘white’ soil with a low limestone content, bestowing refinement and subtlety on the wine.
Our supply comes from plots located at the top of the hill.
Tasting Notes:
The wine has a lemon yellow colour of medium intensity. The first nose expresses pronounced oaky notes (toasted wood, a touch of fresh wood, vanilla, toasted hazelnut, coconut in the background), as well as the aroma of linden honey. After aeration, we find the aromas of lemon jam, yellow peach, fresh apricot, crushed lemon, as well as yellow plum, acacia, fresh linden and yogurt. The palate also expresses woody notes on attack, but less pronounced than on the nose. We find notes of fresh wood, toasted wood, fresh hazelnut. Then, the wine expresses flavors of tart apricot, yellow peach, green apple, green plum, vanilla and coconut in the background, as well as apple blossom and acacia. The finish expresses a good bitterness of grapefruit and chestnut honey. Good persistence on gourmandise, salivating acidity and good bitterness.
Magnificent Wine !
