Gabriëlskloof, `Magdalena` Semillon Single Bottle
Country: South Africa Region: Cape South Coast
Varietal: Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc
Colour: White Style: Dry
Producer: Gabriëlskloof
Located in the emerging Overberg region, Gabriëlskloof was founded by Bernhard Heyns in 2001 at a time when the land was just wheat fields and sheep. However, he saw huge potential in the region, buying a site which has grown to encompass over 60 hectares of vines. Innovative and precise winemaking is fundamental to the Gabriëlskloof philosophy, which is further reinforced by Bernhard’s son-in-law, Peter-Allan Finlayson of Crystallum.
Magdalena is a South African take on White Bordeaux and is the result of the careful blending of the natural entities that make Gabriëlskloof unique. In the glass, the wine reflects the richness and minerality of the Walker Bay soils, the fruit perfume of the cultivars that results from our maritime climate, and is gentle, stylish and elegant on the finish.
Tasting Notes:
Bruised apples, thatch and chamomile are prominent on a richly exotic nose, supported by ginger and Thai basil. Flavours of yellow pear, lemon drop and greengage brighten the palate while quince and dark honey combine for a textured and slightly viscous finish. Decadent, but delicately so.
Food Suggestion: Smoked salmon or sushi
Closure: Stelvin ABV: 12.5% Acidity [g/l]: 6.2
